Tucked within the verdant township of Bandar Eco Setia in Shah Alam, is Straits of Heron - a collection of 54 homes that stand out not only for their form, but for their spirit. Completed in December 2024, the development comprises bungalows and semi-detached houses designed with a vibrant Peranakan touch, brought to life by ONG&ONG Malaysia’s architectural expertise.

The brief called for homes that do more than housing; they tell a story. Drawing from the rich visual language of Peranakan culture, the architectural team introduced signature motifs and flourishes that evoke tradition in a contemporary framework. From the ornate floral decorations to the eye-catching roof spine and red-tiled slopes, every element was carefully considered. Windows echo the intricate patterns of shophouses from eras past, while bold colour palettes inject warmth and joy into each façade.

Carrying the project from start to finish, the team overcame challenges with creative solutions throughout the four-year journey. The team was especially hands-on in guiding the construction process, ensuring every traditional detail; from the protruding columns to the curated tilework was faithfully executed.

Beyond its cultural storytelling, the homes in Straits of Heron also embrace natural living. Generous windows usher in daylight, while the double-volume living and dining areas create a sense of airiness rarely found in urban homes. This architectural rhythm—where tradition, clarity, and comfort coexist—turns the development into a living tribute to heritage.

Straits of Heron is a neighbourhood designed with intent, where the past informs the present and every detail honours a deeper narrative.
