Singapore Airlines' newly transformed First Class SilverKris Lounge at Changi Terminal 2 represents a defining milestone in the airline's multi-phase rejuvenation. The transformation brings together architecture and interior design by ONG&ONG, project management from Project Innovations, and wayfinding and placemaking by IMMORTAL, to deliver a highly refined environment that elevates the First Class experience.
The design approach focused on maximising every spatial opportunity within the constraints of an existing terminal environment. The team faced technical challenges working within the site as it lacked existing services. Innovative solutions included directing kitchen provisions through the roof and integrating new toilet suites whilst maintaining spatial quality.
The entrance sequence was carefully planned by ONG&ONG to create a seamless welcome experience. As travellers approach via the terminal bridge, the spatial arrangement frames their arrival with batik imagery on both sides, establishing a clear threshold before reaching the circular foyer. Layered lighting and refined finishes support this transition. Batik elements were developed and integrated as part of the overall architectural sequence.
Positioned as the first major destination guests encounter, the Signature Bar anchors the space both socially and visually. The team deliberately placed this horseshoe-shaped centrepiece to create an intimate atmosphere after considering the ceiling heights. Utilising lowered ceilings around the bar, the 180-degree configuration becomes a welcoming focal point.
The living and dining areas capitalise on the lounge's greatest asset: its expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light and emphasise its generous ceiling height. The spatial planning ensures guests can lounge, dine, and relax in an environment that feels open and connected to the sky beyond. Statement chandeliers punctuate the space, creating a celestial quality that complements the natural light.
One of the project's most distinctive design decisions involved the kitchen area. The existing terminal structure featured a sloping ceiling, a characteristic the team recognised as an opportunity rather than a constraint. By rerouting building services around this sloping profile, the design preserved the ceiling's dramatic angle, allowing it to read as a floating architectural element. This approach exemplifies the project's philosophy: to uncover and enhance spatial qualities rather than box them away.
Beyond the main social areas, the lounge includes thoughtfully designed supporting amenities that include shower suites designed as quiet, restorative environments, and a Playroom that accommodates families without disrupting the lounge’s overall tranquillity.
The lounge's visual identity draws upon Singapore Airlines' iconic batik motif. In the wider terminal, a 20-metre batik installation lines the bridge leading to the lounge entrance. Within the lounge, batik patterns appear subtly in select areas, maintaining visual connection without dominating the space. The wayfinding system complements the spatial design with premium pictograms and softly illuminated icons, guiding movement intuitively whilst remaining visually unobtrusive.
Delivering the lounge within a live airport environment demanded close coordination across all disciplines. Project Innovations' project management ensured seamless collaboration amongst stakeholders, contractors, and airport authorities. The result is a First Class lounge that reflects Singapore Airlines’ commitment to thoughtful, quietly confident hospitality brought to life through our integrated 360 Solution.
