ONG&ONG was engaged to design a new roof addition over the Singapore Turf Club Parade Ring to provide improved shielding from rain and sun. Taking a cue from the raintrees on site, the new steel structure was inspired by the form of a giant leaf, with a central arch creating a focal visual element. This left the sides open, allowing ample natural ventilation. The canopy comprises TEFLON or PFTE (polytetrafluoroethylene), a high tensile membrane, which diffuses daylight. Visually, it integrates well with the existing spectator stand shelter.
